Week two

After the second week of being here after keeping these blogs I have decided to take a learning style test here http://www.brainboxx.co.uk/A2_LEARNSTYLES/pages/learning_with_style.htm.

There are 4 learning styles within this test and what learning style you are is based off of which learning style you get the most of. I scored one "reflector", one "theorist", two "activist" and five "pragmatist".

Therefore, after doing this test, I have found out that my learning style is called being a "pragmatist". This means being down to earth but thinking about things rationally. Thinking of the possitves and the negatives of a situation before jumping into it. It also says that I am practical and realistic in my decision making too. These results have made me think about altering the way I will reach my targets rather than alter my targets themselves, although I won't do this until my blog next week.

Week one

After the first week of doing this blog, my goals and targets have changed slightly since I have come to realise my strengths and weaknesses. Although my tragets have indeed changed, I still feel the same on going for a job like the one of which I posted earlier. I'm still excited to do something such as this and I'm still sure that what I'm doing at this college now will allow me to get closer and closer to it, even if they are just small steps to get there.

NewBlogAboutNintendo

My name is Connagh Hanratty, I am 18 years old and I study information technology (IT) at MidKent College, although I am studying IT my biggest love is for things such as gaming. Just after Christmas I am opening my own YouTube gaming channel for others to watch me play while I commentate. I have been told to do this many times by lots of different people and after long consideration I have decided to just go for it.

After all of this at College, there are two things that I wish to do which I cannot decide upon. One is the job that I will be writing about soon and number two is to go to university. I have recently visited friends in Birmingham City University and I really enjoyed my stay there. I really liked their accommodation and learned a lot about the course that they are doing and it does interest me, the course is an IT course.

I will now give you a run-down of the job that I wish to aim for either after college or after university.

This is a job opening for: CONTRACT - IT Associate/System Administrator for Nintendo in America.

I have found a job that I have a great interest in. It is a place in Nintendo in America and that is an graphics designer for Nintendo.

The job requires you to know quite a lot about graphics and GFX, this is because I would be helping to come up with different designs. For example, if a new Pokemon game were to come out, different people are assigned to create different Pokemon and this is something I would love to do.

I feel as if I couldn’t carry out this job just yet as I do not have the technical skills and abilities to do so. Although I may not have them just yet, I am doing a course right now to hopefully get the skills that are necessary to do this job. I will have to work hard during this course to be able to feel comfortable doing this job.

Although I may not have the technical abilities just yet, I feel as if I have the soft skills to do it already. I am a good listener, I am able to come up with solutions easily to problems that have been created and I am known to be able to get the job done when the time is needed, no questions asked. Although I do prefer to work on my own, individually, I can work as a team with others when it is needed. I feel as if I could definitely improve on this though, I feel as if I could make sure that I get better at working as a team.

·         Technical skills I already have: I have studied IT at A level standard and I’m doing a course in It as well, hopefully after this course I will gain the skills that is required of me to fulfil the task of this job.

·         Technical skills I need to develop: I will need to develop my IT skills to help me to feel comfortable with being an associate or a system admin.

·         Soft skills I already have: I am a good listener and I am able to come up with solutions easily for problems that have been made. I can work in a team but I do prefer to work individually.

·         Soft skills I need to develop on: I feel as if I can definitely improve on my people skills. I have no problem working with others, but I could maybe make sure that I put my own ideas out there.

My plan:

My plan is to finish college with decent grades, good enough to get into Birmingham City University and then go on to work in the job that I have written about above. I do plan to stay on for the full two years of the course, but if I do somehow (through a miracle) manage to get a job like this after the first year of college then I will contemplate taking it and hopefully go for it if it does in fact feel like it’s what I want to do.

Targets:

I am going to set myself the targets of trying to complete assignments as early as possible, this gives more time for it to be marked and will give me more time for corrections and feedback. Another one is to start listening more, I tend to slightly drift away for brief periods of time and I have noticed myself missing something quite important because of it.
